Kidder Supervisors will help buy new ambulance chassis

At February’s Kidder Township supervisors meeting, Lake Harmony Rescue Squad director of operations Scott Wuttke gave a presentation on the LHRS’ need for a new four-wheel drive ambulance chassis. The new vehicle will help get responders safely in and out of places the current vehicle does not go when the weather gets bad.

Cost for a new Ford diesel chassis with four-wheel drive, including installing the ambulance body, is $200,000. Costs are lowered by the offer of $17,550 in trade value for the old chassis, plus a $4,500 rebate from the Ford dealer.

Supervisors agreed unanimously to provide 60% of the cost through the township’s emergency vehicles fund.

The chassis will arrive at the dealership this summer, and the unit will be on the road by early fall.

The supervisors meeting was held on the fourth Tuesday of the month for the first time.

The LHRS’ fundraising letter campaign, started this fall, continues to collect donations toward the new four-wheel drive chassis for the older unit. There is a bit more than $20,000 to go to reach the goal. Please consider sending a check to Lake Harmony Rescue Squad & Ambulance Corps Inc. at P.O. Box 564, Lake Harmony, PA 18624.
