One person was seriously injured Sunday night after a crash that resulted from a high speed police chase in Lehighton.
Shortly after 9 p.m. Lehighton Police reported an attempt to pull over a sedan but the driver fled from police driving on numerous streets in the community before driving off Bridge street south on an entrance of a large cemetery.
The driver of the car attempted to elude police due to the windy roads but after striking several tombstones the driver crashed the vehicle into a wooded area.
There three people got of the vehicle and fled but apparently did not realize in front of their car was a steep embankment almost like a cliff.
Police from throughout Carbon County responded to the scene and within a half hour discovered a female occupant of the car was lying at the bottom of the embankment seriously injured.
Members of the Lehighton fire department recovered the woman from the dense and heavily wooded area.
She was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics then flown by MedEvac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma Center in Allentown. It is believed police did apprehend at least one of the two men.
