A policing initiative is set to relaunch in Palmerton thanks to the generosity of several civic-minded individuals.

Borough council on a 6-0 vote Thursday agreed to reinstall the Palmerton Police Department’s bike patrol.

Mayor Don Herrmann announced that two Trek bicycles have been purchased through a combination of donations.

Herrmann said the donations came from Harold Schisler of Campton Funeral Home, along with Dr. Louis Sportelli, DC.

“I believe it will be a great addition to the community,” Herrmann said.

Council’s action came one month after Herrmann said he would like to see the bike patrol implemented.

The police department previously had a bike patrol that started up in June 2013 before it was discontinued.
