Nesquehoning officials want to remind residents that the recycling program in the borough has been discontinued.
Nesquehoning Borough Council unanimously ratified the agreement with Tamaqua Transfer to end the recycling portion of the contract on Wednesday. Councilwoman Rosemary Porembo was absent.
The borough announced that it was ending recycling pickup, effective Feb. 1, but officials said that some residents are still putting out the recycling.
They remind residents that all recycling should now be placed with the trash for trash pickup days.
Councilman Louis Paul said that the change in contract will save the borough approximately $28,000.
He also asked if the budget committee could look at that savings to see if a hike in garbage bills that took effect this year could be reduced.
Last month, the borough approved solicitor Robert Yurchak to send an agreement to Larry Wittig, owner of Tamaqua Transfer, that would end the program officially.
