Woman charged with driving under the influence

A Lehighton woman has been charged with driving under the influence after leaving her car in an intersection and hallucinating.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Mahoning Township Police Chief Audie Mertz in the case against Nicole Miller:

At 7:25 a.m. Dec. 14, Miller, 34, called 911 and said there were two bodies under her car and hung up.

The call plotted at the intersection of Mahoning Drive East and Grist Mill Road.

Mertz saw a black Chevrolet Cobalt in the middle of the intersection on an angle blocking the eastbound lane.

The vehicle was left in a hazardous location with a poor line of sight providing less than 500 feet of visibility to oncoming traffic.

It was locked with the keys in the ignition, and a black dog was sitting on the back seat.

Miller was in a nearby yard with two residents.

The resident told Mertz she asked her husband for an escort to her vehicle so she could go to work because of Miller’s strange behavior.

Mertz noticed Miller had exaggerated movement and could not stand still.

She had scabs and open sores on her hands, and her pupils were constricted.

Mertz asked Miller what type of drugs she had used and she stated methamphetamine the night before.

Miller said she had run out of gas while driving and had locked her car, and that there were two bodies under her car.

She said her XM radio was configured, and people she doesn’t know were talking to her through it.

They were letting gas out of her car, and two bad people were in her car, she said.

Mertz concluded Miller was incapable of safe driving and she consented to a blood test.

Results of the testing showed the presence of amphetamine, 24 ng/mL, and methamphetamine, 480 ng/mL.

Miller faces charges on two counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance; and one count each of DUI - controlled substance, careless driving, improper stop, and illegal park in intersection,

She is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000, 10% monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing March 23 before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.
