The thefts of catalytic converters, which authorities say are worth big bucks on the black market because of the metals of which they are comprised, continue to happen in the region.
• In Schuylkill a theft was reported at 10 a.m. Jan. 15 at Mount Olive Boulevard and Connerton Street in West Mahanoy Township.
Frackville State Police said two Ashland men, ages 20 and 47, told them they left their vehicle parked there at 6 a.m. went hunting. When they returned to the 2020 Dodge Ram truck four hours later, they found the converter was removed from the vehicle.
• In Monroe, state police at Stroudsburg said a converter valued at $500 was stolen off a Lexus RX350L between Jan. 28-31. The victim is Annford Transit.
Police said someone cut the converter off the vehicle at 103 Gypsum Road, Hamilton Township.
• State police at Hazleton said on Feb. 9 Capriotti’s Inc., 1 Banks Ave., in Banks Township, reported the converter on a 2012 Ford F250 truck owned by the business had been stolen. The theft occurred sometime between Feb. 6 and 9. Value of the converter was estimated at $1,530.
