Palmerton Borough Council, meeting in regular session last evening, accepted the resignation of George Samok as fire chief of the community. Samok served 19 years as fire chief and a volunteer firefighter for the past 30 years and has also been an instructor in the state fire school over the past 20 years.

Named to replace Samok was Nick Lucia of the West End Fire Company No. 1. Named assistant fire chief was Marvin Schnell of the same company, who replaces Lucia in that capacity.In other business, the council places James Smith, John Ruppel and Kenneth Cebrosky on regular status on the police force, the men having completed their probationary periods. They will now attend the police training school in Allentown.
