Icy and snow-covered roadways were blamed for two crashes that occurred Tuesday in Schuylkill County.
State police at Frackville said a two-vehicle crash was reported at 6:06 a.m. along Route 209 in Middleport Borough.Albert J. Sockalosky III, 33, of New Philadelphia, was driving a 2004 Subaru Outback northbound and downhill, when he lost control as he was attempting to negotiate a left curve due to icy road conditions.His vehicle spun into the southbound lane and directly into the path of a 2005 Dodge Dakota operated by George J. McIntyre, 68, of Lansford. McIntyre attempted to avoid a collision by moving right but could not with the rear of the Outback slamming into the front of the Dakota.No one was injured but both vehicles sustained heavy damages, troopers said.Troopers cited Sockalosky for the crash.The second crash occurred around 2 p.m. along Route 309 in Kline Township.Troopers said Melissa P. Roote, 46, of Lansford, was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound and rounding a right curve when she lost control on the snow-covered road.The Jeep went onto the berm, traveled onto an embankment, then rolled over onto its roof, coming to rest partially on the road.Roote sustained minor injuries and was taken to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale, by McAdoo ambulance.
