Jim Thorpe, county agree on rate for hall

Jim Thorpe Borough and Carbon County settled on a $250 per day rate for the county court’s use of Memorial Hall in March and April.

The county requested to use the hall two weeks in March and one in April, four days each time, for jury selection and trials while an elevator project gets underway in the courthouse.

The borough, in January, initially offered the county the venue for $500 per day. At Last week’s borough workshop, council said the county came back with a $250 per day offer. Council will take official action Thursday night.

“I think it’s fair and a good compromise,” Council President Greg Strubinger said.

Borough Manager Maureen Sterner said the county will also be doing some work on the mixers and public address system at the hall.

“Anything they purchase or have done, they will pay for and leave in place but I don’t have any dollar amount on that at this time,” Sterner said.
