Lansford woman gets jail term for retail theft

A Lansford woman was sentenced to a county prison term on Monday for retail theft.

Andrette Haupt, 54, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve three to 12 months in the county prison.Haupt was arrested on May 18, 2013, by Lansford police for an incident at Boyer's Market along West Bertsch Street. She took items valued at $44.01.Matika rejected a request to have Haupt serve the time in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program, noting that since her arrest on the incident case, she committed two more retail thefts in other counties. He also noted that Haupt has a long history of retail theft arrests and every one she commits now are felonies.Haupt told the court that she has long-term mental health issues. She is currently in treatment for her mental health issues and said medication she is taking is helping her to stop the compulsion she has to steal.Assistant District Attorney Gary F. Dobias said he was troubled by Haupt's past, which included the multiple prior arrests for retail theft and that she has been revoked from probation in the past by continuing to steal.Matika also ordered Haupt to continue with her mental health counseling, render 50 hours of community service when released on parole, supply a DNA sample, stay out of Boyer's Market, pay court costs, which average about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole. She will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on Oct. 27.
