Mahoning tables fireworks ordinance

Mahoning Township has hit the brakes on a proposed fireworks ordinance.

After discussion, supervisors on Wednesday tabled action on a fireworks ordinance.

Board Chairman Robert Slaw noted that the then board of supervisors tried to get the matter passed last year.

However, Supervisor Deborah McGowan said she wasn’t comfortable adopting a fireworks ordinance at this time.

“It’s very confusing,” McGowan said. “To me, it should be no fireworks.”

That, McGowan said, would eliminate the issue entirely.

“If we don’t allow it, then people can’t do it,” she said. “I just think we should adopt something that says ‘absolutely not.’?”

However, Slaw said he wasn’t sure that was the way to go about it.

“I think it should be somehow regulated,” Slaw said. “But, I’m against banning it completely.”
