Rabies vaccination and microchip clinic planned

The Carbon County Animal Shelter will hold a rabies vaccination and microchip clinic on Oct. 18.

According to county Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard, the clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Beaver Run Rod and Gun Club, Lehighton. The cost for the vaccination is $15, while the microchip is $20.Gerhard spoke about the importance of microchipping your dog.He said the shelter has been able to identify and reunite lost dogs that had been chipped. Microchipping helps because it allows owners to program in pertinent information about the dog, including its age, if it has any issues and where it lives."This is a great opportunity for people to get their dog chipped at an affordable price," Gerhard said.Preregistration is recommended for anyone wishing to get their dog microchipped due to the number of available chips at the clinic. For more information, call the shelter at 570-325-4828.The shelter is also conducting a clothing drive. To date, 2,500 pounds of clothes have been collected.Clothes are still being accepted until the end of the month, Gerhard said.Donations of dry dog food, soft and hard treats, dog toys and bones, as well as cleaning supplies, bleach, dish detergent, laundry detergent, large garbage bags, paper towels and cloth towels are also being accepted at this time.To drop off clothes or other donations, visit the shelter at 63 Broad St., Nesquehoning, located off Route 93 on the Broad Mountain.
