No millage hike in L. Towamensing

Taxes are again expected to remain stable next year in Lower Towamensing Township.

No tax increase is expected in 2015 on the heels of a budget workshop conducted by the township's board of supervisors Friday morning. If supervisors were to adopt next year's spending plan with no tax increase, it would leave the millage rate unchanged at 1.6 mills. That would mean a person whose home is valued at $100,000, and would be assessed at $50,000, would again pay $80 to the township in property taxes next year. Some areas where the budget is expected to see a minor change are a 5-cent increase in the light tax, from .40 to .45; and the fire tax, which will rise from .04 mills to .05 mills.Supervisor Ron Walbert said the slight increase to the light tax is "to keep this revenue neutral."Also as part of the budget, township employees would receive a 2 percent salary increase next year.Additionally, township employees must pick their vacation time by the end of January. On a side note, supervisors agreed to spend up to $1,500 for a motor for the township's V-box spreader.
