An Albrightsville woman admitted in Carbon County court on Thursday to using her daughter in a retail theft incident.

Tammy Jane Scott, 40, pleaded to one count each of retail theft and corruption of a minor before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II. She also entered a plea to driving under the influence in another case.She was charged by state police at Lehighton on Dec. 17, 2015, for an incident at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township. Troopers responded to the store and were told by store security that Scott attempted to leave the store with $588.77 worth of merchandise without paying for it and that she used her 14-year-old daughter to assist in the theft incident.The DUI count stems from an Oct. 25, 2015, incident along Route 209 in Towamensing Township when she was arrested by state police at Lehighton after being involved in a rear-end collision. She was injured in the crash and taken to a hospital. Troopers obtained a blood test which showed the presence of a controlled substance.The retail theft count is rated a felony three because Scott has two prior convictions for retail theft.Nanovic deferred sentencing so Scott can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation for the DUI charge.
