Lehighton inducts National Honor Society members

Twenty-three juniors and six seniors joined the Daniel I. Farren Chapter of Lehighton Area High School’s National Honor Society recently during the high school’s induction ceremony.

Following a piano prelude by Trey Gower, NHS adviser Michelle Clark welcomed family and friends to the induction.

A prayer was then given by NHS senior member Jordan Cook, followed by senior Addison Howland reading a brief history of the National Honor Society. The descriptions of the four virtues that a student must possess when they are a member of the society were read by fellow senior NHS members.

Isabella Baka spoke of scholarship; Evan Beers read leadership; Howland read character; and Cook read service.

Baka, vice president, then introduced the present members before turning over the podium to Clark, who introduced guest speaker Marshall Walters.

Walters is president of Architectural Polymers.

He stressed to the students that while NHS is a great accomplishment, it is part of a much larger picture.

“Celebrate this,” he said, “but don’t rest. Keep going. Later in life, when you hit adversity, keep going. No matter your success or failure, keep going.”

Following Walters’ speech, Howland introduced the new inductees.

The new NHS inductees are: seniors Elizabeth Gulich, Emily Kleintop, Ally McGinley, Isabelle Meckes, Mackenzie Sabatino and Natalie Smith; and juniors Katherine Aaron, Hannah Christman, Dylan Coffin, Abigail Hoppes, Karissa Hough, Tinaya Klotz, Kylie Kresge, Calvin Maholick, Ethan Malkowicz, Aidan Malloy, Alison Miller, Emma Schappell, Baylee Strausberger, Rebecca Serfass, Natasha Sitarchyk, Madeline Tonkin, Jade Steber, Kaia Slaw, Benjamin Schatz, Logan Wentz, Alyssa Williams, Luke Wilusz and Ashley Wojton.

Senior members are Evan Beers, Jordan Cook, Isabella Baka, Addison Howland, Jordyn Zwetolitz, Chris Whiteman, Sydney Vincent, Amanda Mathisen, Dakota Hiester, Madison DeLuca, Samantha Banning and Olivia Frendt.

Closing remarks were provided by Sue Howland, Lehighton high school principal.

She congratulated each of the students and their parents for the hard work they have done to reach this level of excellence.

“You represent the very best of our school and our district,” Howland said. “Induction into NHS is the beginning, not the end. Challenge yourselves to be the very best and never settle for mediocrity.”

Following the ceremony, a reception was held for family and friends in the hallway of the school.
