In addition to hiring John W. (Jack) Corby as interim superintendent, Lehighton’s school board approved the hiring Monday of Steven Sommers, high school math teacher, at an annual salary of $43,000; Meghan Berezwick, 12-month secretary for the director of special services, at an annual salary of $27,328; and Gretchen Laviolette, math learning loss/recovery tutor, at the contracted rate of additional compensation at $31 per hour for the second semester of the 2021-22 school year.

Janine Partenio was appointed as the district’s deputy Right-to-Know officer beginning Jan. 1, 2022, until June 30, 2022.

Walter Zlomsowitch was appointed to a five-year term as the district’s Carbon Career and Technical Institute Authority representative to the operating committee, while Jeremy Glaush was named Carbon Career and Technical Institute Joint Operating Committee representative alternate for a one-year term and Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit Board of Directors representative for a term ending June 30, 2022.

Board committee appointments

LASD’s board committees for 2022 include Zlomsowitch, Nathan Foeller and Richard Beltz on building and grounds; Brian Shaner, Foeller and Zlomsowitch on negotiations/personnel; Barbara Bowes and Shaner on policy; Bowes and Glaush on finance; and Beltz and Glaush on academic affairs.

Zach Kudla was originally listed as a member of the policy and finance committees, but board president Joy Beers said the district would first confirm with its solicitor that someone who is not an elected director could serve in those capacities.

The district has one current vacancy each on its negotiation/personnel and academic affairs committees.
