Schuylkill employees recognized

Schuylkill County employees are being acknowledged for their service to the county with pins and a certificate.

Those with 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 40 years will receive the gifts.

“I want to applaud all our employees for the years of service they put in here and to give them some sort of recognition,” County Administrator Gary Bender said.

Heather Garrity, human resources specialist and assistant risk manager, said she spoke with Bender before the COVID-19 pandemic hit about ways to recognize employees. However, the project was put on the back burner due to other more pressing issues.

She looked through payroll records to find years of service. The 10-year bench mark was the starting point. In all, 260 pins and certificates will be given out this year. The pin has the name of the county on it and years of service. The certificate lists the name, years of service and is signed by Bender.

He said no county funds were used to buy the items. Garrity said Bender paid for them, something he confirmed.

There are enough for five years, she said.

Eligible employees received an email about the effort, saying it was on behalf of the commissioners and Bender.

“I know it’s not something big and spectacular, but I was just hoping employees appreciate it,” she said.
