Light rain Tuesday night turned into icy roads Wednesday morning as the temperatures dropped overnight.
Several area schools had delays and Jim Thorpe Area School District closed for the day because of ice in higher elevations.
Traffic was stopped on the hill on Route 309 in West Penn Township.
Some buses that were on the road encountered problems. One bus slid on Sixth Avenue into a pole in Nesquehoning.
A crash occurred on Route 309 at Route 443 in West Penn Township around 5 a.m. when the driver spun out on ice.
The vehicle came to rest on its side against a utility pole.
West Penn Township police are investigating the incident.
Some sections of Route 309 had traffic stopped as it was impossible to navigate the roadway.
Another incident occurred at Snowdrift Road on Route 443.
Route 248 was also reported to have slick spots.

Emergency crews are on the scene of a crash on ice-covered Snowdrift Road in West Penn Township.
