Tamaqua honors, celebrates veterans

In Tamaqua, recognizing and remembering veterans happens every day, with the Hometown Heroes banners lining the borough's streets.

Monday's Memorial Day celebration, with a parade and ceremonies at Odd Fellows Cemetery and American Legion C.H. Berry Post 173, took things to a whole other level. The Grand Marshal for the parade was WWII U.S. Navy veteran Steve Daderko. The parade ended at Odd Fellows Cemetery, for the annual roll call of deceased veterans and the placing of a memorial wreath on the veterans monument. This year, organizers recognized the man who has served for 28 years as master of ceremonies, Jon Zizelman, with state proclamations from Sen. Dave Argall and Rep. Jerry Knowles.
