Carbon County retirement fund is healthy

Carbon County’s retirement fund is healthy, officials say.

On Thursday, county Controller Mark Sverchek, secretary to the retirement board, announced that the retirement portfolio value as of Dec. 10 was $97,223,677 after dipping down to $95.29 million at the end of November.

The board also approved setting the interest rate on members’ accounts for 2022 at 5.5%.

By law, counties are required to set the interest rate between 4 and 5.5%.

The interest rate is based on members accounts, which represents the money members contribute to the system.
