The 28th Annual Academic and Appreciation Dinner at Marian Catholic High School was held May 2, with more than 400 people in attendance.

The dinner was sponsored by Marian's Academic and Student Appreciation Committee, with Teresa Sheer and Pat Morgans serving as moderators.The Rev. Robert Finlan offered the invocation and benediction.More than 170 Marian Catholic High School students were recognized for their efforts in the classroom and for their service to the Marian Catholic High School community. Honorees included members of the National French and Spanish Honor Societies; students who achieved honor roll status in each of the first three quarters; the scholastic Scrimmage; yearbook; rock music ministry; peer listeners; student council groups; library and chapel aides, student Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist; senior band and chorus; county band and chorus; diocesan band and chorus; district chorus; Schuylkill County Band and Chorus; media club; future business leaders; student achievement workers; Marian Student Ambassadors; Red Cross Club; Student Advocated of Student With Disabilities; Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Regional winners; and Students Against Destructive Decisions.Student council officers for 2017-2018 were introduced.Principal Jean Susko spoke briefly, commending the students on their academic excellence and their commitment to others. She also thanked the parents for choosing Marian and recognized their sacrifices in making that choice.The evening concluded with the announcement of the Philip and Rita Miler Scholarship, which is awarded to a student from Coaldale.
