An agreement for Lehighton’s Main Street Manager is in place.

Borough council on a 6-0 vote Monday approved the agreement with the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce for the Lehighton Main Street Manager position.

The Carbon Chamber & Economic Development Corp. announced last month that the Lehighton Downtown Initiative and the Lehighton Main Street Steering Committee came together to form the Lehighton Downtown Partnership and operate under the umbrella of the CCEDC.

In order to better serve the community, the CCEDC hired Bambi Elsasser as Lehighton’s Main Street Manager. She began her position on Sept. 13.

After the meeting, borough Manager Nicole Beckett said it’s a one-year agreement with the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce in which the borough agreed to provide $10,000 toward the salary.

Beckett said the position will be revisited annually along with the annual contribution.

“The partnership of the Borough of Lehighton, CCEDC/GLVCC and LDI is a great step forward for the revitalization of the downtown,” Beckett said.
