Palmerton woman speaks at Exotic Animal Club

If they didn't before, students at Penn State University's Main Campus likely have a greater appreciation for animal reptile rescue.

That's after they received a presentation from Herpetologist Christina Obrecht of Palmerton at the campus in State College at the Hucks Science Center earlier this month.Obrecht, who runs Christina's Reptile & Animal Sanctuary in Palmerton, served as guest speaker to the school's Exotic Animal Club.Three small American alligators accompanied her for the two-hour program, which also included a presentation of several videos about the sanctuary.Obrecht said a network of affiliates and volunteers, such as The Gator Boys from Florida, work with them."We do educational shows, and also relocate nuisance animals to other facilities that we work with," Obrecht said. "Reptiles are so misunderstood by the general public, so we try to educate them so that they may realize they deserve to be here just as much as cats and dogs."Christina's Reptile & Animal Sanctuary is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. For information, visit
