Tamaqua news for Nov. 26, 2021

American Primitive

Sunday worship service is at 10:30 a.m. at American Primitive Methodist Church. The service is available at www.tamaquachurch.org and www.facebook.com/PMChurchTamaqua.

There will be no Sunday school until further notice.

Hope in the Mountains Nar-Anon Family Group meets at 57 Hunter St. If you have questions or are interested in attending, contact Mark at 570-952-5098.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at Zion Church, Lewistown Valley.

Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on Nov. 18 with 26 members in attendance. The meeting was opened with the reading “Thanksgiving Prayer.”

A Thanksgiving basket was chanced off and won by Roberta Hollenbach. Jean Machamer was wished a happy birthday.

The group Christmas party will be held at noon on Dec. 9. In the event of bad weather it will be held Dec. 10.

The next meeting will be on Dec. 2. The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 and older is invited to attend.

Rush-Ryan Seniors

The Rush-Ryan-Delano Seniors met on Nov. 23 with 37 members in attendance. The meeting was opened with the reading “Live Life to the Fullest.”

Eleanor Schmerfield was added to the sick list. Pat Tracey donated a flowered money basket that was won by Jayne McLaughlin. Cindy Godenis donated a vase of flowers, won by Grace Sakusky and Debbie Kerestis donated a lighted Christmas gift that was won by Pat Fredericks.

Upcoming activities include: Dec. 4, Grier City Sunday school Gospel quartet with a meal after the service; Dec. 7, Christmas party at Capriotti’s, McAdoo starting at noon. There will be no meeting on Dec. 21. The next regular meeting will be Jan. 22. The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Christ Church, Barnesville. Anyone 55 and older is invited to attend.

Calvary Lewistown

Pastor Ralph Saunders will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is scheduled at 9:15 a.m. and evening praise at 6:30 p.m. Prayer service on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Upcoming events: Dec. 5, Holy Communion; Dec. 12 Christmas Party/Donner following morning service. No evening worship this day; Dec. 19, Sunday school Christmas Program at the 10:25 a.m. service, Christmas candle lighting service at 6:30 p.m.

Tamaqua Adult Day Care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center recently held the monthly board of directors meeting. The center realized $375 profit from Deepen Pie Sales. Earlier this year the center was accepted into the Schuylkill United Way. Our assistant director will attend the United Way December meeting to give a presentation on the benefits provided to our Clients.

On Nov. 12 Clients enjoyed a show by Elvis, the Entertainer. It was a high-energy, fun show. On Nov. 19 we hosted a singalong with Audrey. Other singalongs are scheduled in the next two weeks.

The center strictly follows State COVID-19 guidelines. The center would like to offer a big thank you to Wanda from the office of Jerry Knowles for her help in navigating the red tape involved in state financial assistance programs.

Andreas VFW

Andreas VFW Post 5069 will hold a meeting on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. at the West Penn Annex building.
