Schuylkill crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roadways.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 5:36 p.m. on Nov. 14 along Route 61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Jasmine V. Schultz, 19, of Port Carbon, was driving a 2013 Hyundai Sonata northbound when a deer entered the road in front of her. Her vehicle struck the deer. Schultz was not injured but her vehicle was towed.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 3:35 p.m. on Nov. 10 along South Greenview Road at the intersection with Route 61, in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Jody L. Brossman, 53, of Schuylkill Haven, driving a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox, was stopped at a stop sign facing north of South Greenview while Nisar Ahmad, 65, of Sinking Spring, Berks County, driving a 2019 Toyota Rav4, was southeast on Route 61. As Ahmad approached the intersection, Brossman pulled out into the path of Ahmad.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries and were taken to Geisinger-St. Luke’s Hospital, Orwigsburg. Both vehicles were towed. Brossman was cited for a stop sign violation.

• A two-vehicle crash occurred at 5:50 p.m. on Nov. 16 along Route 901 in Norwegian Township. Troopers said a 17-year-old female from Pottsville was driving a 2007 Volkswagen EOS northbound in the left turn lane, attempting to turn onto Bunting Street while Albert J. Yackenchick, 52, of Schuylkill Haven, driving a 2012 Dodge Caravan, was southbound. The teen turned left into the path of Yackenchick and a collision occurred. No injuries were reported. The Dodge was towed.

The teen was cited for the crash.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 12:50 p.m. on Nov. 2 at the intersection of the Mount Carbon Arch Road and Route 61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Jennifer L. Hoffman, 40, of Pottsville, driving a 2017 GMC Terrain, attempted to turn right from arch road, and stopped suddenly. Her vehicle was then struck by a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado truck driven southbound by Laquarias Q. Dorsey, 29, of Pottsville.

Hoffman was injured and taken to Geisinger-St. Luke’s Hospital. Dorsey was not injured. Hoffman was cited for the crash.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 4:37 p.m. on Nov. 2 at the intersection of Route 901 and Maple Avenue in Norwegian Township. Troopers said Nancy A. Olson, 86, of Ashland, driving a 2005 Ford 500, was southbound on 901 and attempting to turn left onto Maple Avenue. While making the turn Olson failed to see a 2014 Honda CRV driven by Michael Laughlin, 39, of Kulpmont, Northumberland County, who was northbound on 901. The Ford then struck the Honda. A witness observed Laughlin had the green light.

A 16-year-old female passenger with Laughlin, was taken to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. No other injuries were reported.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 6:24 p.m. on Nov. 12 along Route 61 in North Manheim Township, at the intersection with the entrance to the Cressona Mall.

Troopers said Jafus L. Haynes, 36, of Pottsville, was driving a 2011 Mazda 3 southbound while Michael A. Santella Jr., 62, of Auburn, driving a 2014 Hyundai Accent, was stopped in the left lane northbound waiting to turn into the mall.

Troopers said Santella had the green arrow and was turning left while Haynes ran a red light, and a collision occurred. Santella had a suspected minor injury and was treated at the scene.

Haynes was not injured. Both vehicles had to be towed.

Haynes was cited for a traffic light violation.

• A crash was reported at 8:14 p.m. on Nov. 20, along Hickory Drive, in West Brunswick Township.

Troopers said a 16-year-old male from Orwigsburg was driving a 2006 Cooper Mini S southbound and negotiating a right-hand curve.

Due to the teen’s being unfamiliar with the road, the vehicle went onto the berm and struck a wire fence, causing the vehicle to roll over one time, coming to rest on its roof with heavy damages to the vehicle.

Troopers also said seven poles and the wire fence were damaged.

The teen was not injured. The vehicle had to be towed.

The teen was cited for the crash.
