Officials: Carbon prison free of COVID

Carbon County Correctional Facility is currently COVID-19 free, officials report.

On Wednesday, acting Warden Laura Banta told the county prison board that there are currently no cases within the inmate population and prison staff.

“It’s a significant improvement,” she said.

Last month, Banta reported that there had been 15 positive cases in one of the prison’s units.

Banta added that the facility is continuing its monthly vaccination program.

In addition to cases, the acting warden also suggested holding off on restarting visitation at least for another month just to make sure.

The prison staff has started allowing some groups and volunteers back into the prison for various programs with the inmates.

“We’re holding our own so far,” Banta said.
