Support Laible for school board

Dear Editor,

On Monday night, my wife presented a proposal for the following policy change to directly address the current environment of the school board.

Lehighton Area School District, school board director code of conduct proposal: In the policy manual, I’d like to propose an amendment to Section 000 Local Board Procedures Code 011 for the Policy Committee to review:

1. In order to reestablish stability on the board, Section 000 Local Board Procedures Code 006 states that board meetings should “be conducted in an orderly and businesslike manner” by using Robert’s Rules of Order.

2. In order to model anti-bullying behavior for students, any director who attempts to name-call, talk over, and publicly demean both fellow board members and/or members of the public, will be censured the first time and asked to leave for subsequent disrespectful actions.

3. In order to hold everyone accountable to the Lehighton community, directors must offer a safe, nonretaliatory place during board meetings for concerns to be shared.

4. In order to have full transparency, directors should follow protocols and procedures using the proper chain of command for handling issues and concerns within the community.

5. In order to protect the kids, directors are required to submit all PA child clearances and complete statewide mandatory Director Board Training.

My wife is running for school board to help reprioritize the students in the way we invest our money and make decisions moving forward. She’s been and is engaged in serving kids in various sports, clubs and service projects.

She’s working on her master’s degree at Harvard to gain more knowledge necessary for understanding various parts of what a healthy school board looks like and can accomplish together.

She wants to be a part of the solution. Jennifer Laible would appreciate your vote on Nov. 2.
