Man pleads guilty in simple assault

Michael C. Strohl, 31, of Lehighton, entered a guilty plea Thursday before Judge Steven R. Serfass to one count of simple assault.

He was arrested by Franklin Township police for an incident on July 4 at 52 State Route 2015. Police responded to the residence for a reported domestic assault.On scene, officers were told bya woman that her then-boyfriend, Strohl, had struck her on the side of the head during an argument. She required medical attention.A plea agreement called for a probation term, which Assistant District Attorney Joseph D. Perilli said was negotiated at the preliminary hearing in the case in whichthe victim was present. Perilli said thatthe woman and Strohl were still in a relationship at the time of the hearing and approved the probation term.The victim told Serfass she and Strohl are no longer together, but still agrees with the probation recommendation.Serfass, after questioning it, went along with the agreement and placed Strohl on probation for 24 months and ordered him to render 100 hours of community service, make restitution to Sommers for $200 and have no contact with her.He must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
