Girardville parade rescheduled for April 8

The Girardville St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee announce that the 14th Annual AOH Girardville St. Patrick's Day Parade has been rescheduled to April 8.

The parade, originally scheduled for today, kicks off at noon.The annual event was postponed because of cleanup from winter storm Stella."Our heartfelt apologies to those participants, bands, organizations, AOH/LAOH divisions, and spectators who planned on being with us this coming Saturday and will not be able to rearrange their schedules to be with us on April 8," the committee posted. Registrations are still being taken.This year's parade is dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the "Day of the Rope" that occurred in Schuylkill and Carbon counties in 1877.The parade's annual commemorative booklet and parade program will feature the historical story of the "Day of the Rope" with the history of the execution of the legendary Molly Maguires and how the events help lead local coal miners to start the union labor movement of the 1870s.The parade is saluting all labor unions.For more information and to register for the parade, go to
