Faith Alive Church

Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St. Palmerton (Bowmanstown), holds two services each Sunday with Pastor Rob Timlin. At 8:30 a.m. is the contemporary service followed by Sunday school for all ages at 9:45 a.m. and then traditional service at 11 a.m. This Sunday during both church services “PA Adult & Teen Challenge” will be guests. They will be attending to sing and give testimonies of their new life walking with the Lord.

Every Wednesday at 7 p.m., join us for prayer and praise.

Every Sunday in October at 6 p.m. the youth group Impact will meet. It is open to all youth 12 years to 12th grade.

Every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. is a men’s Bible study group.

Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. is an adult Bible study.

Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon is church work day.

Donations accepted: Faith Alive’s ABC Food Pantry. Helping the needy among our community, and Faith Alive’s ministry, Micah’s Backpack Program. Our 10th year helping the Palmerton school children and their families.

Faith Alive’s October Mission, Operation Christmas Child. This cause brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoeboxes and the good news of God’s love.

JUCC

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, holds worship each Sunday at 10 a.m. in the church grove (weather permitting). Dress comfortably and bring a lawn chair. Supply pastor Don Quayle will lead the service.

Sunday school for children 6-12 years is alternating weeks of in-person and Zoom learning to better serve everyone.

A members Adult Wine and Cheese Campfire will be held on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m.

The annual basket raffle and bazaar will be on Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in fellowship hall.

The Quilt & Crafts group will meet Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the church basement. There is a variety of crafts from quilting to cross stitching to bag making.

Halloween parade

The Palmerton Halloween Parade will be held Oct. 17 beginning at 4 p.m. The parade will form at the Seventh Street Field. The rain date will be Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.

Holiday food drive

If you are grocery shopping in Country Harvest, please check out the Valor bin and check out some of the items needed to help fill approximately 300 meal boxes this Thanksgiving for area veteran families who are in need. The Valor Clinic provides veteran families in crisis with complete day’s meal starting with breakfast and ending with dessert at the end of the day. The food drive will provide meals for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Cookies and craft

Cookies & Craft Family Night will be held in the gym of Bethany Wesleyan Church, 457 Delaware Ave., Palmerton from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 20. They will provide the craft and you’ll supply the cookies. There will be an adult and child craft provided for you. All are invited to come and enjoy this fun-filled family event.

Living Hope Lighthouse Church

Living Hope Lighthouse Church, 705 Third St., Palmerton holds services each Sunday at 10 a.m. The annual food drive benefiting the Palmerton food pantry will run now through Nov. 14. This year there’s a little twist. There will be three totes at the back of the sanctuary - one for each of the three sections of pews. Place your donations in the tote corresponding with the section you typically sit in during Sunday service. See which section brings in the most donations. The food pantry is in need of Thanksgiving style foods such as stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and canned vegetables. They also need personal care items.

Craft fair

The 26th annual Towamensing PTO Craft Fair & Basket Social will be held Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Towamensing Elementary School, 7920 Interchange Road, Lehighton. There will be handmade items for sale, a basket raffle and bake sale. Come out to support your local elementary school.

Lottery cards

The Palmerton United Veterans Organization has November daily number lottery cards available. The donations will help offset costs of the large flag replacement and pole maintenance at the 248 entrance to Palmerton. There are two chances to win each day, 30 times during the month. Cards can be obtained from any member of the Palmerton UVO or call Ed Moyer at 570-325-9657 or email to tecked@ptd.net.

Trunk or treat

Trunk or treat will be held on Oct. 30 from 5-7 p.m. Living Hope Lighthouse Church, 705 Third St., will provide all the treats. All you have to do is park on Third Street in front of the church and decorate your trunk. Then you can distribute treats to all the kids as they come by to check out your decorations. Prizes will be awarded for the best trunk decorations in various categories. Bring a folding chair.

Military recognition

Palmerton Area School District is extending an invitation to all area veterans and active military members to attend an honoring of our military with special recognition of our fallen Marines in Afghanistan. The honoring will be held at the home football game on Oct. 22 at halftime. All military members and one guest will be admitted into the stadium free of charge (with military ID). You will also be invited onto the field during the halftime honoring. PASD recognizes the sacrifices and commitment made by our veterans and military and look forward to honoring each and every one of you. Please join together for this special event.

Cub Scout Pack 209

It’s popcorn time for Cub Scout Pack 209 of Trachsville. Please support your favorite little Scout by purchasing popcorn. Money and orders are due Oct. 26.

Library board

The Palmerton Area Library Board of Directors will meet Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.

Book club

The Third Monday Book Club will meet at the Palmerton Area Library Oct. 18 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. October’s book is “A Long Petal of the Sea” by Isabel Allende. The club discusses a different book each month. New members are always welcome. Call the library at 610-826-3424 for information.

Borough council

The Palmerton Borough Council will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 in Borough Hall Chambers, 443 Delaware Ave., Palmerton.

Breakfast

An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club, 525 Club Road, Palmerton. Menu items include eggs to order, potatoes, pancakes, SOS, toast, cereal, hash, ham, bacon, sausage, OJ, coffee, tea and milk.

Food pantry

The CACPAC sponsored Palmerton Food Pantry will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton on Oct. 22 from 8:30 to 2:30 p.m. The pantry supports residents of the Palmerton Area School District only and you will need to show proof of residency and answer questions regarding your income.

This is a drive-thru event, so please remain in your vehicle and follow instructions given by volunteers. If you are unable to attend, someone may pick up for you.

The pantry is always in need of nonperishable food items, and paper and personal care items. Donations may be dropped of at 459 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton. A box will be on the porch for donations. Local churches also collect on a regular basis.

Fall festival

The Bowmanstown Families Activities Committee will hold a Fall Festival on Oct. 23 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club, 525 Club Road, Palmerton. There will be vendors and crafters of all kinds. Music and photo booth will be provided by Phat Kid Productions. There will be a basket raffle from 1-4 p.m. Concessions will be provided by B.A.R.C., Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club, Parryville Volunteer Fire Company, Rosie’s Empanadas, and Smokehouse Food Truck. There will be a Chili Cook-off from noon-2 p.m. Money raised will go back to various Bowmanstown community organizations.

Basket raffle

The Bowmanstown Family Activities Committee will be accepting basket raffle donations until Oct. 18 for the Bowmanstown Fall Festival. Please let them know by messaging them through Facebook or email at eventsbfac@gmail.com.
