Palmerton news for Sept. 29, 2021

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Palmerton (Trachsville) holds worship each Sunday at 10 a.m. Sunday school has also resumed. Worship will continue to be held in the church grove, weather permitting. Dress comfortably and bring a lawn chair. This Sunday they will celebrate Harvest Home. Everyone is asked to please bring a nonperishable food item. Communion will be offered. Supply pastor Don Quayle will lead the worship.

Apple and fall festival

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, will be holding their Apple and Fall Festival on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the picnic grove. Bring your lawn chair. There will be music be Dean Hahn & The Hawks from noon to 3 p.m.

There will be a chance auction and meat raffle tickets with more than 40 prizes. The drawings will be at 3 p.m.

They will have a wagon with apples, apple cider, pumpkins and fall items for sale.

Come enjoy homemade food including apple dumplings, cobbler, funny cake, apple or regular sausage sandwiches, their very own Dutch potato filling, barbecue, hot dogs, macaroni & cheese and ice cream.

Bowmanstown Community Dog Show

Bring your dog to enjoy the Bowmanstown Community Dog Show on Saturday at the Oliver Solt Pavilion next to the Bowmanstown Fire Company on Lime Street. Registration for the dog show begins at 11 a.m. The judging/show starts at 11:30 a.m.

Ten fun categories include: best dog costume, best dog trick, best tail wagging, liveliest dog, furriest/fluffiest dog, cutest dog, manliest dog, girliest dog, dog/owner look-alike, and most expressive eyes. There is a small entry free. Includes prizes, participant ribbons and goodie bags.

Food and drinks will be available to purchase. There will be a basket raffle, silent auction and vendors.

They will have a dog walk on the D&L Trail, leaving at 9 a.m. from the Marvin Gardens Trailhead in East Penn Township.

Block shoot

A block shoot will be held at the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club, 525 Club Road, Palmerton on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Block shoots are open to the public and are smoke-free. Food and drinks are available with ticket purchase, which is available at the door. Doors open at 11 a.m., shoots start at noon. Twelve-gauge shoots are the first Saturday of each month October through April.

Fall basket spectacular

The Palmerton Concourse Club will hold its fall basket spectacular Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton. Tickets are on sale now at the Palmerton Library and at the church the day of the event. Delicious home baked goods, soups and light lunch items for sale. Basket drawings will be after 2:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Palmerton community.

Annual fall basket social

Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 Church Drive, Trachsville, will hold their annual fall basket social Oct. 8 from 4-7 p.m. and Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be theme baskets with $25 hidden in three baskets. Food will be available both dates: Barbecue, homemade soups, filling, etc. There will be baked goods, chow chow, and apple butter for sale. Drawing will be Saturday at 1 p.m.

Halloween parade

The Palmerton Halloween Parade will be held Oct. 17 beginning at 4 p.m. Rain date will be Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.

Trick or treat

Trick or treat will be held in the Palmerton Borough on Oct. 30 from 5-7 p.m. Please have your porch light on if you would like to participate in this fun event.

Breakfast

Breakfast will be served Sunday from 8-11:30 a.m. at the Parryville Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2, 359 Main St., Parryville. Platter choices include pancakes, French toast, eggs any style, SOS, Fire House Mess, western omelet, ham and cheese omelet. Choices of meats are ham, sausage, scrapple or bacon. Includes home fries, juice and coffee. They have large and small platters.

Knitting Club

The Knitting Club will meet at the Palmerton Area Library on Monday from 5:30-7 p.m. The club is free and open to anyone interested in knitting and crocheting of all skill levels.

Blue Mountain Fiber Guild

The Blue Mountain Fiber Guild will meet at the Palmerton Area Library on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. The group explores all things related to fiber arts (spinning, weaving, etc.). Come check it out!

Palmerton Area Library

Due to increasing COVID-19 case numbers on Carbon County, all in-person programs for children have been postponed until further notice. Online and drop-in activities are available. Call the library at 610-826-3424 for information on all activities.

Drop-in activities: stop in the library to try their Fall/Halloween activity and craft table every week in October. Week 1: Preschool, Week 2: Elementary, Week 3: Tweens, Week 4: Teens.

A new story time video is posted online on the Facebook page every Friday at 10:30 a.m. for children.

STEAM Online is science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities for ages 9 through 13. Sign up to receive four weeks of at home activities through Google Forms. New theme each week. All those who participate for all four weeks will be put in a drawing for a STEAM Mystery Take Home Bag.

Teentober is online Halloween and fall activities, crafts projects, digital escape rooms, etc. just for ages 13 through 18.
