Weissport council

In other business, Weissport council discussed the following:

• The borough will be renting the lift again and will be trimming more trees from the borough park this weekend.

• Weissport Borough Solicitor Greg Mousseau reported that a letter was received from Renee Roberts, Tax Claim Borough. Under the new law, Carbon County will provide to the borough a list of potential bidders on properties in the borough that will be for sale by the Sheriff’s office.

Once the sale is completed, a list is sent to the borough of the highest bidder on any properties within the borough. Council can then file an “objection” to any winning bidder if they have an issue with that bidder.

The list of properties for sale will be released by the Carbon County Sheriff’s office and will be published in the newspapers.

• Barry Isett & Associates Inc., the new zoning and code enforcement officers hired by the borough last month, started with a property on White Street that was doing renovations without having obtained the proper zoning permits.

The contractor was ordered to stop all work until the permits were acquired. The contractor was to go to the municipal office to get those permits. Isett will be checking into other zoning violations around the borough.

• The Weissport Event Committee reported they made $570 from the July yard sale.
