Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 11
Northwestern and Jim Thorpe teams enjoyed a successful weekend, with each school registering three victories.
Elsewhere, Pleasant Valley picked up a win in boys soccer action, while Northern Lehigh posted a shutout in field hockey.
BOYS SOCCER
Jim Thorpe-Pleasant Valley
Pleasant Valley’s Onious George scored the game’s only goal to lead the Bears to a 1-0 nonleague victory over Jim Thorpe.
PV’s Zach Pandolfo made three saves to gain the shutout win, while Thorpe’s Jacob Geiser stopped nine shots.
The Bears improved to 2-0-1, while the Olympians dropped to 4-1.
Northwestern-Palmerton
Northwestern received goals from nine different players to register a 9-0 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.
The Tigers received a goal and an assist from Matthew Johnson, Joshua Zellner and Cayden Fitch. Other scorers included Jack Mauro, Dominic Yeakal, Lucas Van Lierop, Skyler Romanuski, Isaac Frey and Bailey Bloise.
The winners also received two assists from Philip Taylor, and one from Nicholas Krum.
Northwestern is now 3-1, while the Blue Bombers are 1-3.
No. Lehigh at Seitzinger Memorial Tournament
Northern Lehigh suffered a pair of shutout losses at the Taylor N. Seitzinger Memorial Tournament in Hamburg.
The Bulldogs dropped an 8-0 decision to Hamburg, and then fell by a 4-0 score to Schuylkill Haven.
Nolehi is now 0-4.
GIRLS SOCCER
Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua
Nicole Carroll had two goals and an assist to help Jim Thorpe post a 5-1 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.
The Olympians jumped to a 2-0 first-half lead thanks to goals by Aurora VanAuken and Kaila O’Connor. Carroll doubled the margin with her two tallies in the second half.
Thorpe also received a goal from Kelli Hogarty, while Lauren LeKites posted a pair of assists.
Sarah Hope accounted for the Blue Raiders’ only score.
Olivia Rosenberger made seven saves for the winners.
The Olympians are now 1-2, while Tamaqua is 0-4.
Palmerton-Northwestern
Northwestern’s Sophia Motolese accounted for the game’s only goal as the Tigers gained a 1-0 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.
Katie Browning assisted on the only tally to help Northwestern improve to 3-0-1.
The Tigers had an 18-1 advantage in shots, with Emma Snyder making nine saves for the Blue Bombers (5-1).
No. Lehigh at Seitzinger Memorial Tournament
Northern Lehigh split its two games at the Taylor N. Seitzinger Memorial Tournament in Hamburg.
The Bulldogs posted a 3-0 victory over Brandywine Heights, but suffered a 2-1 loss to Hamburg.
Victoria Hanna, Jayden Fischer and Nicole Zarayko all posted Nolehi goals in its win, with keeper Dekotah Barthold making eight saves.
Barthold stopped six shots against Hamburg, while Kaylee Wilk scored her team’s only goal.
The split leaves the Bulldogs record at 3-1.
Lincoln LA-Weatherly
Weatherly scored seven first-half goals and cruised to a 12-1 nonleague victory over Lincoln Leadership Academy.
Kendall Gerhart and Bethany Houser each had hat tricks in the opening half, while Juliette Bartel also scored to give the Wreckers their 7-0 advantage.
The winners received two goals from both Erin Prete and Kayla Jones in the second half, with Emma Kane accounting for the other tally.
Kane and Bartel split time in goal, and the two combined for seven saves.
Weatherly is now 1-2.
Pine Grove-Lehighton
Mel Love scored a pair of goals to lead Pine Grove to a 3-0 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.
Abbey Frew tallied in the first half to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Love added insurance with her two second-half scores.
The Indians received 18 saves from goalie Alyssa Meyers. Taylor Ott only needed to stop three shots to record the shutout win.
The loss dropped Lehighton to 1-3.
FIELD HOCKEY
Catasauqua-No. Lehigh
Gabby Myster scored the game’s only goal to lift the Bulldogs to a 1-0 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.
Olivia Horninger assisted on the goal, which allowed Nolehi to improve its record to 2-1.
Northwestern-Salisbury
Two goals from Brinley Rex helped Northwestern gain a 4-0 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.
The Tigers, who improved to 1-2, also received scores from both Cara Thomas and Daniella Lister.
Fleetwood-Lehighton
Fleetwood held Lehighton without a shot in posting a 5-0 victory.
Casey Lynn Dewald scored a pair of goals and had two assists for the Tigers, who finished with an 19-0 margin in shots.
Sarah Loeffler also finished with two tallies, while Amy Fitzgerald scored once.
Indian goalie Shelby Heather registered 14 saves.
The loss drops Lehighton to 2-2.
GIRLS TENNIS
Blue Mountain-Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe posted it first-ever victory over Blue Mountain, gaining a 3-2 victory.
The Olympians received singles wins from Gabby Nunez and Hailey Trine, with both matches being settled after splitting the first two sets.
Thorpe’s doubles team of Kaylinn Trine and Taylor Saba also earned a hard-fought decision to help the Olympians improve to 5-2.

Jim Thorpe-Northwestern
Jim Thorpe swept Northwestern in a nonleague match, winning by scores of 25-21, 25-13, 28-26.
Alexandra Ramey had eight kills, three digs and three service points for the Olympians, while Brooke Mitzen finished with seven kills.
Andi Hoherchak contributed 17 assists, with Carson Rosenberger adding 11 digs and three service points.
Also aiding the winning effort were Kristin Pompa (four kills, three service points, two blocks) and Haylei James (nine digs, three service points, two aces).
For the Tigers, Mia Ritter had 19 assists and eight digs, and Jenna Breininger posted seven digs, six kills and four aces. Avrie Zentz added three kills and three blocks.
Jim Thorpe is now 3-0, while Northwestern dropped to 2-2.
