Palmerton Day to be held in borough park Sunday

Looking for a fun-filled way to spend one of the final weekends of summer?

The first Palmerton Day will be held in Palmerton Borough Park on Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.

Music, games, local nonprofit information booths, demonstrations and a rededication ceremony celebrating the newly renovated bandstand are among the many free activities planned. For the younger children, there will be emergency vehicles parked along Fourth Street for touring, face painting and balloon animals made by Bubbles the Clown. There will be organized games for all ages to play, as well as cornhole, ladder ball and Wiffle ball available for use.

At 5 p.m., there will be a duck race in the creek. Ducks will be available to the first 100 children to register. Prizes will be awarded to the first three finishers. Registrants must be present at the time of the race to receive their prize.

The organizers are urging those in attendance to purchase takeout meals from local restaurants that faced many hardships over the past year. Bringing the food to the park will allow everyone to enjoy the fellowship of their community while listening to the music. There will be a DJ set (noon to 2 p.m.), a trio, Rikki & Friends (3-5 p.m.), leading up to the Palmerton Band at 6:30 p.m. in the last performance of the Concourse Club’s Summer Concert Series.

Immediately preceding the Palmerton Band’s concert will be the rededication ceremony of the Bandstand honoring the Behler Foundation, which funded the beautiful renovation.
