State police report on crashes in Monroe County

• State police at Fern Ridge reported investigating a two-vehicle crash at 12:41 p.m. on July 29 at Neola Road and South Lane, in Jackson Township, Monroe County.

Troopers said Michael Akselrod, 66, of Reeders, driving a 2020 Lexus GX460, was attempting to make a right turn onto Neola Road from South Lane and failed to make sure it was safe to enter the road. He pulled out in front of a 2021 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Edward Lance, 67, of Stroudsburg, who was northbound on Neola Road, and a collision occurred.

A passenger with Lane, Brenda K. Lance, 63, sustained a suspected minor injury and was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital - Monroe Campus, East Stroudsburg. No other injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.

Akselrod was cited for vehicle entering or crossing roadway.

State police at Stroudsburg

State police at Stroudsburg reported on the following crashes:

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 4:21 a.m. on Aug. 1 along Hollow Road in Smithfield Township. Troopers said Sebastian D. Correa, 27, of Pocono Summit, was operating a 2008 Honda Pilot southbound and going too fast for conditions when he was unable to negotiate a steep, downhill curve. The vehicle went onto the berm and struck guide rail.

Correa was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed. Correa was placed under arrest for DUI, troopers said.

• A two-vehicle crash occurred at 1:31 p.m. on Aug, 6 along Interstate 80 in Hamilton Township involving a 2012 Ford Focus driven by Fatima K. Foster, 22, of Binghamton, New York, and a 2009 Saturn Aura, driven by Michael R. Mangyik, 21, of Tobyhanna. No injuries were reported. Troopers did not release and details of the crash but noted Foster was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• Michael J. Craig, 60, of Saylorsburg, suffered suspected minor injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 12:40 p.m. July 30 on Hamilton Road in Hamilton Township.

Police said he was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado south when it traveled up an embankment and struck a tree before rolling onto its roof.

Police said Craig refused treatment at the scene by the West End Fire and Rescue Company.

He was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.

• Cori J. Rollins, 28, of Mount Pocono, escaped injuries in a traffic incident at 6:22 p.m. July 28 on the Pocono Boulevard in Mount Pocono.

Police said he was driving a 1991 Honda Civic southbound when it experienced mechanical problems because the ball joints of the vehicle became suspended. Police said he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to strike the concrete median and travel into the northbound lane where is sustained disabling damages. The vehicle needed to be towed from the scene.

Rolling was cited for failure to have insurance on the vehicle.

• Rodroheric Villafane, 54, of Saylorsburg, sustained suspected serious injuries in a crash at 11 p.m. June 13 on East Terrace Drive in Hamilton Township.

Police said he was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado on East Terrace Drive when he lost control on a curve and the vehicle struck an unoccupied Jeep Compass parked on the 200 block of Terrace Drive. After striking the Jeep, the Silverado struck a house and became disabled on the front lawn of the property.

Police said he was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg, by the Suburban emergency personnel.

The vehicle sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene.

Police said Villafane was cited for the crash.
