Ross supervisors discuss road improvements

Road improvements and cleaning up park trails were a few topics discussed at Monday night's Ross Township Supervisors meeting.

In March, the Schreck subdivision needed an extension recommend by the township's planning committee. Some Pennsylvania Department of Transportation employees attended the meeting, and township Chairman Howard Beers said an open-space fee of $600 and obtain a highway occupancy permit are needed for the idea to come to life."It's just a minor subdivision, a 7-acre parcel and a 2-acre parcel, and everything's fine," Beers said. "They need a driveway occupancy permit, and they need to pay their open-space fee that we have whenever you create a new lot."The driveway or local permits are used to install, alter or move a driveway, and PennDOT has to pay the open space fee to the township to proceed. The board moved line-striping discussions on Blue Ridge Road until June's meeting. Beers said line-striping costs 45 cents a foot for a certain area.Paving bids were also explored for parts of the road and Panel Road. Three companies appeared interested in doing the job at a later date. The date for the Pocono Mountain Council of Governments dinner meeting isMay 23. Ross Township will send one representative to reopen discussions on bidding for the paving.During April's meeting, Supervisor Russell Kresge talked about paving for this season and said a road inspection should be held before any other action takes place.Another topic brought up was Cub Scout Troop No. 102 needed compliance to do a cleanup along the Ross Township park walking trail.Vice Chairman Tina Drakesaid of the trail, "I don't walk it every day, but it's in pretty good shape."Drake also expressed the importance of more people cleaning up other trails in the area, especially Chestnuthill Township Park which is one of three other parks in the surrounding area."There's a lot of trails up there where the park committee does a lot of roadside cleanup on that, but any volunteers we can get with any of our parks and trails, we'd appreciate it."The next scheduled supervisors meeting will beJune 6.
