Faith Alive Church

Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown), holds two services each Sunday with Pastor Rob Timlin. At 8:30 a.m. is the contemporary service followed by Sunday school for all ages at 9:45 a.m. and then the traditional service at 11 a.m. On Aug. 8 they will have a guest speaker, Pastor Lee Adams.

Every Wednesday at 7 p.m., join us for prayer and praise.

Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. is church council meeting.

Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. is the youth group event - end of summer fire pit night

August Mission of the Month is “ABC Food Pantry.” This is the church’s own food pantry to help their church families and others in the community. Food donations and monetary gifts are welcome to help this wonderful mission.

Micah’s Backpack is currently restocking the shelves for the 2021-22 school year. They help to feed the needy students in the Palmerton Area School District. Food items needed are pasta with sauce (7.5 microwave cups), “Compleats” meals, and gelatin with fruit (individual cups that are nonrefrigerated). Any donations will be greatly appreciated.

Read to Me program

The Palmerton Area Library wants to give new parents and babies the gift of reading. Newborns who are read to develop a larger vocabulary, math and language skills. Stop by the library to pick up a free Read to Me bag. Each bag has a children’s beginner board book and information on the benefits of reading to babies. These bags have been lovingly donated and feature a picture of a child who was read to. The Read To Me program at Palmerton Area Library was started by mother and educator Susan Olivia in memory of her daughter Kristin. It is also supported by local donors and book lovers. Library basket raffle

The Board of Directors of the Palmerton Area Library has put together some wonderful baskets. The basket raffle starts Aug. 9. Tickets can be purchased at the library front desk. Winners will be contacted Sept. 13.

Free community meal

A free community meal will be served at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton, on Aug. 10 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. This is a takeout meal only. The menu is lasagna, salad and dessert. All are welcome.

Park concert

This Sunday’s concert in the Palmerton Borough Park will be by The Pennsylvania Villagers from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the park bandstand. This concert is sponsored by the Palmerton Concourse Club. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the concert. The Bandstand Committee reserves the right to cancel the concert in case of inclement weather.

On Aug. 15, the concert will be by Second to None Band.

Church picnic

The Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Trachsville, will hold their annual Sunday school picnic this Saturday beginning at noon. Services with guest speaker Roger Borger will be at 2 p.m.

Afternoon activities include a kiddie cake and fish pond at 3 p.m.

Evening activities include a cakewalk for all ages at 6:30 p.m. followed by a raffle drawing.

Live music by Last One Standing will begin at 4 p.m. Bring a lawn chair and come enjoy at day filled with great food, fun and fellowship.

Borough council

The Palmerton Borough Council will hold their regular meetings on Aug. 12 and 26 at 7 p.m. in Borough Hall Council Chambers, 443 Delaware Ave.

Book drive

The Kids for the Community Book Donation Drive is ongoing now until Aug. 31. Drop off any new children’s books at 783 Princeton Ave., Palmerton. A box will be on the porch. The books will be distributed to local day cares and to those in need through September. The drive is in conjunction with National Read a book day on Sept. 6, followed by October’s National Book Month. For more information call 610-393-0705 or visit kidsforthecommunity@yahoo.com.

Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous is an open meeting held every Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Living Hope Lighthouse Church, 705 N. Third St., Palmerton. If you or anyone you know is struggling with drug addiction, please come by. This is a great resource for help.

Car, truck and bike show

A car, truck and bike show with flea market will be held Sunday at Zinc City Motorcycle Club, 10485 Interchange Road (Route 209), Kresgeville. Registration is from 9 a.m. to noon with the show and Flea Market to 2 p.m. Food is takeout only, Door prizes and 50/50.
