Underage drinking arrest in Tamaqua

Tamaqua police cited a 17-year-old male for underage drinking on Friday night, Sept. 23.

Officers on patrol at 9:20 p.m. observed a white Pontiac Grand Am coming from the area of the Buehler Memorial (Bungalow) Pool.The car failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Catawissa and Lafayette streets, turning left on to Lafayette. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was asked for his license and registration.While a passenger in the car was searching for the car's registration an officer noticed a silver can of Coors original beer.A search of the vehicle turned up eight additional empty Coors cans under the front passenger seat, an additional full can in the glove compartment and another full can in a cooler in the car's trunk.The driver told officers the beers were all his and submitted to a portable breath test, which indicated a blood-alcohol content of .14 percent.
