Carbon County Commissioners
Carbon County Commissioners approved the following items last week:
• A proclamation naming last week as Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week in Carbon County. The county recognizes its employees in adult and juvenile probation as caseloads increase due to various offenses.
• An award in the amount of $40,371 from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency for the Carbon County Intermediate Punishment Program.
• An allocation letter from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services for the 2021/2022 MATP program through LANTA listing the initial allocation in the amount of $431,254.
• An amendment with Steven J. Elton, architect, of Bethlehem for emergency operations and training center project. The amendment increases the cost of the burn tower architect contract by $10,000 for a new total of $53,000; and the observation and police building increases $33,000 for a new total of $42,500. Additional charges were due to the change in the scope of work, code changes and revised bid documents.
• An agreement with East Penn Township permitting the township to utilize a portion of the bridge located on Riverview Road over Lizard Creek at confluence with the Lehigh River, to construct a biking lane and pedestrian walkway serving the D & L Trail. East Penn accepts all operation and maintenance obligations, requirements and responsibilities for the biking lane and pedestrian walkway and the county retains the rights over the portion of the bridge.
• An agreement with Renaissance Psychological and Counseling Corporation of Kingston to provide psychological evaluation of pre/post-employment of county employees including but not limited to court officers, sheriff deputies, correctional officers and probation offices. The agreement is effective July 1, 2021 at a cost of $300 per standard evaluation. The agreement shall continue until terminated by either party upon 30 days written notice to the other party.
• Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein announced the cancellation of the Aug. 5 commissioners’ meeting due to a conference the board will be attending. The salary board meeting scheduled for that day will be rescheduled for the following Thursday.

• Retirement: Joanne T. Donnelly of Jim Thorpe, lead judicial secretary, court administration, effective Sept. 17.
• Resignations: Brandon L. Bohn of Mahanoy City, part-time corrections officer, effective July 21; and Jessica A. Tirpak of Tamaqua, corrections officer, effective Aug. 7.
• Hire: Robert G. Heffelfinger of Summit Hill, clerical aide, tax claim, effective July 26.
• Clerk of Courts appointment: Regina M. D’Ancona of Nesquehoning, clerical specialist, effective July 26.
• District attorney appointment: Christopher T. Ritter of Lehighton, temporary part-time county detective, effective July 26.
• Change of status: Donald W. Ebinger of Effort, from part-time corrections officer to corrections officer, effective July 26; and Sara Reeser of Bowmanstown, from clerical specialist in district attorney’s office to victim/witness coordinator, effective July 26.
