A Nesquehoning councilman who was censured last month for an outburst in May has resigned.
During a special meeting of borough council on Monday, the board accepted the resignation of George Sabol III. Sabol had submitted a letter of resignation last week.
RoniSue Ahner, borough secretary-treasurer, said that council is now accepting letters of interest to fill the vacancy on the board.
The person who fills the vacancy now would need to run to fill the remaining two years of the term in the November general election.
Letters of interest should be sent to the borough hall at 114 W. Catawissa St.
Sabol had sat on council since March 2015, when he was voted in to fill a vacant seat that had been created by the passing of then Councilman Robert Marouchoc.
He won the seat later that year and was sworn in for his first term in 2016. He was later reelected for a second term in 2019.
In May, a discussion about no parking on a borough street led to an expletive-laced outburst by Sabol before he walked out of the meeting.
Council then voted in June to censure Sabol’s actions.
Sabol also faces charges of recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and harassment for an incident at his home in July.
