Lehighton Band plans first summer season concert at Lehighton Park Amphitheater
The Lehighton Band has planned its first of three summer concerts.
“Under the Stars,” will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Lehighton Park Amphitheater.
The concert will once again consist of many styles of music, and will open with the playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
The opening march for the evening is “Pan American” by Karl King.
The band will continue with “And in the End It was Earth.”
That will be followed by “Lead On, O King Eternal.”
The soloist for the evening is Laura Reichard, who will perform Trevor Ford’s “Polonaise for Piccolo.”
Following the solo, the band will perform its next march, “Liberty Fleet,” also by Karl King.
From there, the band will move on to a piece of concert music titled “Pastorale Printemps” by Yosuke Fukuda.
The band will then play Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Great Balls of Fire” arranged by Shane Porter.
A fun piece of music titled “Shenanigans” will be the next number. Bassoonist Beth Cressley and trombonist Joseph Plechavy will join the band’s drummer Duane Reichard for this number which uses many auxiliary percussion instruments.
The band will then perform “The Great Jubilee,” a Southern folk song arranged by Leland Forlsblad.
The band will next perform “Hot Stuff” arranged by Ralph Ford. Donna Summer made this song a hit back in 1979.
The final concert number is “When You Wish Upon a Star” arranged by Sammy Nestico. This song was selected as a “teaser” for the band’s next summer concert, which will feature songs from Disney.
The band will end with John Philip Sousa’s “High School Cadets.”
The band continues to prepare for two additional concerts, with the first one scheduled for later in August. The concert is free to the public, but donations are greatly appreciated.
The band is currently in the process of changing banks, so it cannot currently accept checks for donations.
Guests are welcome to attend the concerts in the park amphitheater, where park benches are available, as well as spaces for folding chairs.
