Butterfly sanctuary reopens

The Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary, 18 Church St., Jim Thorpe, reopened Friday.

In observance of post-COVID safety, the facility is limiting the number of people inside at a time.

In case you have to wait a few minutes, bring a snack, a book, a friend.

The picnic area is open and there will be children’s activities in the new outside pavilion.

The sanctuary includes an interactive live flight room, butterfly hatching area, frog room, videos, educational programs, guided tours, puzzles and activities, nature-based gift shop and craft area. Scout tours and parties are available.

Admission for the 2021 season is $9 per person. Seniors 63 and over are charged $8. Children under 3 are admitted free. The sanctuary will be open Thursday through Monday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday 2-6 p.m. Reservations are not needed.
