Improvements made to Weissport park

Weissport's borough park is shaping up nicely in preparation for the upcoming Redneck Festival.

The ninth annual Weissport Redneck Festival will be held from 5-10 p.m. Sept. 2, and from noon to 9 or 10 p.m. Sept. 3 and 4 in the borough park.In advance of that, the Weissport Recreation Committee has spent $5,200 on park improvements, according to Duane Dellecker, vice president of the committee.Dellecker said those upgrades include wiring and trenching, along with the installation of two 100-amp subpanels with multiple outlets to power the east side of the park ($2,500); improved lighting and painting inside the gazebo ($1,500); and landscaping work to the bell tower and pavilion ($1,200).The committee used funds it raised from last year's Redneck Festival, as well as its two yard sales, to pay for the work, he said."It's nice when people can actually see when money is actually spent on public improvements," Dellecker said.He said future plans include the addition of two more water taps, as well as another subpanel out to the north side of the park. Last year, Dellecker said the committee built synthetic garbage cans.Volunteers are always welcome to join the committee, which typically meets at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month at either the borough park or borough hall. Those who wish to join may contact
