Carbon County’s transit provider is increasing its destinations for shared ride participants.

Commissioner Rocky Ahner, on Thursday, announced that after receiving several calls recently about participants needing services to various doctor appointments in Tamaqua, LANTA has agreed to include Tamaqua in its shared ride program.

The transits will now offer rides to any medical office or the Adult Day Care location in Tamaqua from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Complete guidelines should be discussed with the transit service, including any additional costs that may be needed.

“This was something I’ve been working on for a few weeks to get out-of-county transportation services restored,” Ahner said. “Once the two hospitals are up and running I’m sure they will attract a larger field of medical care, eliminating the need to go outside the county.”

In addition, Ahner said LANTA has added a run to Hazleton two days a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays to Boscov’s at the Laurel Mall and Weis Markets.
