Juveniles charged as adults in Dieruff attack

Two juveniles have been charged as adults for their roles in an attack near Dieruff High School last week.

District Attorney Jim Martin announced Wednesday that Javien Sabater, 15, and Exzavier Scales, 17, both of Allentown, have been charged for their involvement in the incident Oct. 25.Both are charged with one count each of aggravated assault, and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, riot, and possession of a firearm by a minor.In addition to those charges, Scales has been charged with person not to possess a firearm.An investigation by Allentown police into the incident - in which about 20 pupils from Dieruff High School allegedly assaulted two fellow students - it was determined that Sabater and Scales had handguns.A loaded Mossberg .22 caliber handgun was discovered on Sabater, while a Lorcin .380 caliber handgun with seven rounds of ammunition was discovered in Scales's backpack.Police said Sabater and Scales used these weapons to strike, or "pistol whip," the two victims.
