Council denies band’s request to waive permit fee

A request by the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band to waive a permit fee for work to its parking lot has been turned down.

Borough council on Monday denied the request from the organization at 197 S. Sixth St. to waive the $75 permit fee.

The organization wants to regrade its parking lot, and its request pertained to work completed/future work to be done to their parking lot.

However, Councilman Ryan Saunders said he didn’t believe council could accommodate the group’s request.

But council President Grant Hunsicker said council needs to be careful not to run the risk of losing them.

“But they don’t have any money, and you’re going to lose a place that’s been here for years, and I mean years,” Hunsicker said.

Borough engineer Bruce Steigerwalt said they need to provide a drawing of what they’re proposing to do.

“This is kind of almost after the fact,” Steigerwalt said.
