A preliminary hearing for a Palmerton man charged with firearms not to be carried without a license and prohibited offensive weapons has been delayed.
Justin Kuneck, 37, was scheduled to have a hearing Wednesday before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton, but the case has been rescheduled. No new date has been established.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Palmerton Police patrolman Shawn Leadbetter, he was dispatched to the Palmerton Hotel at 4:58 p.m. Dec. 21 to meet the manager in reference to one of his employees. The manager said he was in the process of terminating Kuneck, who was a cook at the restaurant, but believed Kuneck would start a confrontation because he heard rumors that Kuneck carries a gun, which is not registered, around in his bag. When asked if he had any belongings or anything illegal in his possession, Kuneck said he had a black bookbag on the floor of the kitchen that had a loaded 9 mm firearm that wasn't registered.Kuneck was then handcuffed, and during questioning, gave police the consent to search his black bag, which yielded a silver 9 mm Taurus semi-automatic handgun.Kuneck said he did not have a valid license to carry a concealed firearm, and was given the firearm by his father.
