State police at Schuylkill Haven
State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on the following incidents:
• A Schuylkill County driver is facing charges after she fled the scene of a crash.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident occurred at 9:10 a.m. on May 21 along Manheim Road, at the northeast entrance to a Sheetz service station lot located at the intersection with Route 61, in North Manheim Township.
Troopers said Dolores M. Seltzer, 84, of New Ringgold, was driving a 2010 Lincoln-Continental MKZ with Elizabetta M. Carestia, 19, of Schuylkill Haven, driving a 2008 Ford Edge behind her. As Seltzer slowed down to make a right turn into the Sheetz lot, Carestia was too close and the front of her vehicle hit the rear of Seltzer’s vehicle. No one was injured.
Carestia fled the scene but was later located. She was charged with accidents involving damage to attended vehicle or property, duty to give information and render aid, failure to report accident to police, careless driving and following too closely.
• Troopers also reported investigating a one-vehicle crash at 6:56 a.m. on May 23 along Route 61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Zachary T. Hepner, 18, of Pottsville, was driving a 1988 Ford Ranger pickup southbound when he veered off the road and struck a curb. The truck went through the grass area and then struck a business sign before coming to rest in the Rockwood Center parking lot entrance. Hepner was not injured. He was cited for the crash.
• Another one-vehicle crash was reported at 4:22 a.m. on May 23 along Route 61 in West Brunswick Township. Troopers said Jeremy J. Martrich, 48, of Hamburg, was driving a 2003 Honda motorcycle southbound when a deer entered the road in front of him. He was unable to avoid striking the deer. Upon impact the bike and Martrich overturned and skidded to a stop along the shoulder.
Martrich was injured and taken to Geisinger-St. Luke’s Hospital, Orwigsburg. The bike had to be towed.
• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 10:13 p.m. on May 6 along Pheasant Run Road in West Brunswick Township. Troopers said Corey J. Leiby, 51, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 2010 Lexus eastbound when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole. After impact the vehicle continued forward for several yards before coming to final rest partially on the road.
Leiby was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed. He was cited for the crash.
