Ex-Weissport chief faces assault charges
A former Weissport Borough police chief awaiting trial on child rape charges is now accused of assaulting a relative earlier this month.
The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office charged Brent Robert Getz, 29, of Lehighton, with simple assault and harassment. According to an affidavit of probable cause, Getz threw a female across a room in his Franklin Township home after she called him a “child raping pedophile” during a verbal altercation on May 8.
The victim, who told Franklin Township police she hit her head on an unknown object during the alleged assault, reported the incident to authorities six days later. He was arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge William Kissner and posted a $75,000, 10 percent bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 9 at 9:30 a.m.
Getz and his friend Gregory Wagner were charged in 2019 for repeatedly raping a child over a 3-year period, starting when the girl was 6 years old. At the time, Getz was 14-17 years old.
The alleged incidents occurred at the house where she lived with family members, including Gregory Wagner, who was also charged. Getz was friends with Wagner and often slept over at the house.
Wagner pleaded guilty in November 2020 and was sentenced to 10-20 years in state prison. He also agreed to cooperate with the commonwealth in their prosecution of Getz.
Getz is currently scheduled for a jury trial in November.
In the new case, Getz’s relative said he came in the residence on May 8 after having been gone for two weeks and she believed he had been drinking. The two fought verbally and as she walked up to the second floor, she turned to Getz and said, “call me what you want, at least I am not a child raping pedophile.”
She also told police Getz tried to assault her a second time after throwing her across the room, but she fought him off with her feet.
Getz came back, according to the affidavit, and began to “beat on the door so hard that the door and frame shook,” eventually breaking the center door panel.
The victim suffered a large scrape and bruising to her left forearm, a scrape and bruising to her right shoulder and reported that she suffered from headaches, fumbling with her words and difficulty focusing.
