• Coaldale: The American Legion Post 170 and the VFW Post of Coaldale are joining together for Memorial Day service. The first service will begin at 1 p.m. May 30 at the Police Station. The Panther Valley High School ROTC shall support Post 170 and VFW. No band will be present. This is only our main service for today. The brief event for Seek Coaldale will take place on the grass area by the three flags poles around 2:30-2:45 p.m. No police will conduct traffic control. The side street will be open for traffic, so please be aware. This will be only 30 minutes to pay our respects. Taps will sound to end the brief service.

• Polk Township will hold its 25th annual Memorial Day program at the Veterans Memorial and Adam’s Faith Garden in Kresgeville at 2 p.m. May 30.

• Slatington: May 30, the American Legion Allen O. Delke Post 16 in Slatington, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 16, and the Legion Riders will conduct services at nine outlying cemeteries. The Legion Auxiliary will provide lunch afterward.

May 31

• Gilbert: American Legion Post 927 will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. May 31. The event is open to the public, but indoor guests are limited to 60 guests. CDC guidelines will be followed inside and outside. A light lunch will follow the outdoor portion of the event. Call 570-977-3046 for more information.

• Jim Thorpe: American Legion Post 304 members will meet at the Legion Post at 7:45 a.m. on May 31. They will then conduct services throughout the borough. The agenda is: 8:15 a.m.: Immaculate Conception Cemetery; 8:45 a.m.: Evergreen Cemetery; 9:10 a.m.: Saint Joseph Cemetery; 10 a.m.: Mauch Chunk Cemetery. Services will consist of a brief welcome, prayer, rifle salute and taps.

• Palmerton: Palmerton United Veterans Organization to hold its Memorial Day Parade at 10 a.m. May 31, Memorial Day.

• Slatington: On May 31, the Legion family will hold services at the remaining three cemeteries and at the Trout Creek covered bridge. This year Memorial Day services will be held at Memorial Park instead of Union or Fairview cemeteries. The Slatington 101st Memorial Day parade will form up on South street at 9:30 a.m. The parade to Memorial Park starts at 10 a.m. and will proceed down Main street to the park, followed by the main service. The public is invited and encouraged to attend and participate at all services.

• Summit Hill: The Memorial Day Parade, Carbon County’s largest tribute to our military, is scheduled to step off at 11 a.m. May 31, on Ludlow Street in the center of the community.

• Tamaqua: Annual Memorial Day parade, May 31, 10 a.m., hosted by the C.H. Berry Post 0173. The grand marshal is Robert Boyle, a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean War. The poppy queen is Miss Lailul Creitz, a junior member of the ALA. Staging will begin at 9 a.m. by the old Maff Motors Building on East Broad Street. The Legion’s Honor Guard will fire a volley over the Tamaqua War Memorial. Scheduled to attend are: TAHS Band, local dignitaries, classic and antique cars, military and emergency vehicles, civic groups, fire departments and other marching units.

Following the parade there will be a service at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be at the Tamaqua Arts Center. All CDC and state Department of Health guidelines must be followed.
